Credit Where Credit is Due

…and now a few words about IRON MAN. You guys realize that if they had hired any other director besides Johnny Favs and cast anybody besides RDJ and The Dude, we would never have gotten the MCU and decent modern STAR WARS? Say you hire Tom Cruise to play Tony Stark and Javier Bardem as Obidiah Stane. We would have got a serviceable flick, and maybe a sequel. Maybe another title for A MARVEL UNIVERSE! and a logo and everything and Paramount is happy with their mid-level franchise but audience interest kind of peters out and there’s a couple failed pilots for network shows and that’s kind of it and the big new movie thing is pirate movies and time travel flicks.

But in our dimension, we get a director who breathes the material, a leading man who already lives it, and an actor’s actor who is known for his deep understanding of his role in any project he takes. AND the three of them are all facing the same direction so all the choices add up to the best warm apple pie of a movie ever and then we get FIRST AVENGER and THOR and they told two friends and they told two friends and all of a sudden we have 25 movies and a streaming service full of stuff and Johnny Favs goes to go save STAR WARS while he’s at it and we finally get that spaghetti western in space we always wanted.

I just think you people don’t understand that we wouldn’t be here if IRON MAN (2008) just, you know, KINDA worked. Jon Favreau and Robert Downey, Jr. and Jeff Bridges all deserve Valentine’s Day cards from us, you ask me.
