OK, the world has lost its mind. TimeOut (and of course The Mary Sue) somehow seem to have a judgment on folks in this troubled world trying to turn shit around. Apparently taking a monument to despair and making a shrine out of it so kids can shoot their ST fan films is a giant crime, as the former Lithuanian prison which shut down in 2019 where they shot Hopper’s internment and demogorgon bitchslapping is now a STRANGER THINGS themed airbnb.
I mean, let’s keep the misery out there and not let the locals capitalize on the accident of location shoots and inflate their economic standing for the locals because crybabies in the West, I guess? I hope everyone opposed to this has sent at least US$2500 cash to the government of Lithuania to bump up their economy like they can leveraging this opportunity to take back a poisoned space.
Do you guys want them to just let evil win? You’re just not getting the theme of the show you love, I guess.
And I am FUCKING STUNNED (although I shouldn’t be) that The Mary Sue (not exactly a bastion of reason and thoughtful contemplation) has something to say about fans getting numbered tattoos like Matthew Modine’s X-Men and equating them to interned Jews. Well, yes. That’s the point. And now fans of the show are taking that back, too.
I haven’t seen the piece of art I like so much I’d get it inked but that’s me and I don’t have a judgment on what people do with their bodies because I know what’s my business and what isn’t. I don’t know when The Mary Sue started advocating against “my body/my choice” but nobody over there has shown a lick of nuanced sense ever so I agree with them that “I guess this is the world we live in now” but the lack of self-awareness is hilarious in its indestructible irony.
Anyway, I wonder what Time Out makes of being able to sleep overnight in the USS HORNET or outside of San Simeon or any other place where they reclaim terror and raw excess and fleece the rich. Because let’s not single out STRANGER THINGS fans and get to the root of it if you really care and aren’t just writing outrage about the new hotness for clicks.
