From 2001 to 2004 or so I wrote a column for Comic Book Resources, back when it was a vital and important part of social media making sense of the pop culture landscape. I remember these as being a weekly statement of intent, but the thing I think is really impressive now is the whole Notes From the Front Lines tone of it all. That’s a guy who has one eye on the bombs the enemies are throwing but still has time to point the crap out to the kids to make sure they don’t step in it. Nice work, twenty-years-ago-Larry. History has been kind to your earnestness.
Man, I gotta see if Dr. John Price, PhD, has time or inclination for 600-800 words about folklore for an intro for this thing. That would give him an excuse to come out and do autographs and maybe a panel with us next year at SDCC:
NOT SO SERIOUS STAR TREK* (4pm-5pm, Hall H) Serious Star Trek podcast host Dan Shahin plays fizzbin with Dr. John Price PhD as he waxes melodic about the mythopoetic mode and why John Eaves is the basic devil. Join inappropriately enthusiastic color man Larry Young and His Amazing Technicolor… Star Trek uniform collection… as we publicly make good-natured fun of Rob Burnett and wonder why we took her name so literally as we chase Chase Masterson around the tables on the stage. Quatloos for attendees as long as supplies last.
* not a real panel… yet.
